Long Island MMA Class Descriptions

MMA

Our Mixed Martial Arts classes are a blend of techniques from all martial arts classes taught at the Long Island MMA gym, including Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and Wrestling.  It is in the MMA class where we put all the techniques together.  You can be a great striker and have great submissions, but if you can’t use them interchangeably they won’t be as helpful in the world of MMA.  This class is comprised of techniques, drills, and optional live training.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes at Long Island BJJ are taught utilizing the Kimono or Gi.    We follow the traditional belt ranking system of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for adults (white belt, blue belt, purple belt, brown belt, and black belt).  Long Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes focus on grappling, which includes positional movements (sweeps, guard passing, etc) and submissions (joint locks and chokes), and Judo style takedowns.  The class itself is a mix of techniques, drilling, and live training.

No Gi Jiu Jitsu

Our No Gi Jiu Jitsu at Long Island BJJ is very similar to our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes except they are taught without utilizing the Kimono or Gi.  No Gi classes focus on grappling, which includes positional movements (sweeps, guard passing, etc), submissions (joint locks and chokes), and wrestling style takedowns.  The class itself is a mix of techniques, drilling, and live training.

Muay Thai Kickboxing

The Muay Thai classes at Long Island MMA are a striking art utilizing punches, kicks, knees, elbows and the clinch.  The classes are a mix of techniques, drilling and striking specific conditioning.

The Striking grappling class is where we mix No Gi Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling with strikes.  This can consist of learning how to “close the distance” with strikes in order to use a wrestling takedown or learn how to properly utilize “ground and pound” while in a conventional Jiu Jitsu position.  This class consists of techniques, drilling and live training.
