Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier has the potential to be an extremely entertaining fight for MMA fans. When wondering how this bout will play out there are so many questions to ask. Does Jon Jones have skilled enough takedown defense to remain striking against Cormier? If the fight remains standing could Cormier possibly knock out Jones? Will we see Jones knock out Cormier? There are just so many things that could happen because both competitors are extremely well rounded and talented athletes. Jon Jones has stated that he is confident in his wrestling abilities and will even be looking to take down Daniel Cormier. This is a brash statement. Although Jones has a decorated wrestling background Cormier is of the highest caliber when it comes to wrestling. It is also notable that in his bout against Alexander Gustafsson Jones was taken down multiple times. Although he may be confident Jones ability to control the wrestling in this fight is questionable.

However, should the fight remain on the feet the advantage would logically be in Jones’s favor. His length and skill as a striker is far superior to that of Daniel Cormier. His ability to create angles and land devastating unorthodox strikes will undoubtedly be a problem for Cormier in his attempts to achieve the takedown. But the question should also be asked as to whether the striking of Jones will be somewhat reserved in this bout. Due to the wrestling capability of Cormier it is possible that we may see less stalking offense as was displayed by Jones against Rashad Evans and more counter striking.

UFC featherweight Dennis Bermudez whom fights out of Long Island MMA believes that the fight will fall in favor of Daniel Cormier. There were several factors that the “MENACE” discusses in making his decision. He believes that the reach of Jones will not be a problem for Cormier because he had fought successfully at heavyweight in the past and was not only able to not be knocked out by any opponent but he was able to knock out his opponents. Having dropped down a weight class it is unquestionable that Daniel Cormier has the power in his shots to finish at light heavyweight. As far as wrestling is concerned, Dennis also believes that the advantage lies heavily with Cormier. A wrestler of Olympic caliber such as
Cormier should be able to control where it is the fight takes place and the “MENACE” also believes that Cormier’s ability to push the pace will be greater due to his wrestling background. Regardless of the outcome, the fight will certainly be entertaining for fight fans!
