Last weekend we had a few of our members drive all the way out to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to compete at a local NAGA Tournament. Being able to watch the three of them compete was an honor. They all work so hard in the gym and their hard work all pays off.

Starting with Justin this was just his second competition he has ever done. Since the last tournament he has been working extremely hard on his wrestling with Coach Tom Pooch. All that hard work paid off huge in all of his matches where he faced some tough wrestling competition. He did extremely well listening to everything that was coached to him in his matches and was able to pull off 3 victories in his No-Gi Division securing him the Gold medal. His words after were “I will continue to improve and further my skills in BJJ and Wrestling and am excited for the next one”

Next was Tori. She has been a member with us for over 5 years and she loves to compete every chance she gets to prove herself. Tori being a Blue belt is supposed to compete in the Intermediate Division unfortunately that day there was no one in her skill division to compete against so she moved up to the Expert Division there was also no one in her weight class in the expert division so she competed outside of her normal weight class as well. When I asked Tori how she felt about that she said it didn’t matter because she knew she would do well and win. With that she took to the mat and had a tough fought match with a game opponent that brought them into the overtime round that also ended with a tied score of 0-0. Fortunately due to Toris aggressive submission game she earned the Referee Decision due to her constantly attacking her opponent with relentless submissions. She earned 1st Place and a really sick belt for winning the Expert Division.

Last up was Eddie. He is Toris younger brother and has been training with us just as long. Before the tournament started Eddie was a little more nervous than normal because he had just come off a very tough Wrestling Season and only had taken one BJJ class before jumping in. Eddie was able to compose himself and reminded himself that he got all that experience in wrestling to be able to take everyone down and control the match how he wants. He did just that in his first match he won in 40 Seconds with a rear naked choke that came off of a duck under to the back. He was able to dominate all of his opponents and get all submission victories earning gold in Gi and No-Gi divisions.

All of them did amazing in their lead to their victories and winning their divisions. If you wish to learn how to compete and want to start your journey with us make sure you contact us and we can help change your life! 631-592-8339
