Saturday, July 11th is going to be quite the day for Long Island Mixed Martial Arts and its members here in Farmingdale! Reason being that we are proud to be welcoming Henry Cejudo to our mats where he will be coaching a wrestling clinic. Henry’s resume is littered with accomplishments including four high school state wrestling championships. After high school he was chosen to attend the Olympic Training Center in Colorado and began training full time to make a run in the 2008 Olympic Games. Henry became a freestyle wrestling gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games; he was twenty one years old at the time and the youngest American wrestler to ever do so. After retiring from wrestling, Cejudo made the transfer to Mixed Martial Arts and is currently ranked #9 in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) bantamweight division.
It is no secret to those that understand the sport of mixed martial arts that wrestling is arguably the most important skill set one may possess in entering into the cage. Proficiency in wrestling allows a fighter to dictate the avenue that the fight will in fact take place. If you would like to stay on the feet to utilize your superior striking guess what will keep you there, defensive wrestling. What if you decide that you need to submit your opponent to get the win, you need to take him down first! Once again wrestling is dictating where the fight is going to happen at all times. Therefore it is an amazing opportunity for all of those that will be attending this clinic to be able to learn from one of the absolute best in the sport of wrestling. Whether you are training to become a better wrestler or to take that wrestling over to the cage this is an event that one would be foolish to miss!
