About Albert

From Teen Student to Black Belt & Coach

Albert has trained with Long Island MMA since he was around 17 years old. Years inside the same academy gave him a deep understanding not only of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but of LIMMA's culture and long-term approach to developing martial artists.

He eventually earned his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Gregg DePasquale and developed into a successful competitor while taking on an increasingly important coaching role.

Albert at one point stepped back from competition to devote more of his attention to developing students—particularly younger athletes. Today, he is head of LIMMA's toddler program and one of the lead coaches in the kids grappling program while continuing to compete himself.

Long-Term Development

Albert learned inside the same system he now helps teach, giving him firsthand perspective on how students can progress from their first classes into technically capable grapplers.

How Albert Coaches

Learning Through Problem-Solving

Albert makes extensive use of the Constraints Led Approach, placing students into guided grappling situations where they have specific goals, rules, or problems to solve rather than relying only on memorized sequences.

01

Give Students a Real Problem

Instead of only rehearsing a predetermined sequence, students are placed into specific positions with a clear objective they must work toward.

02

Let the Athlete Adapt

Because a partner is actively responding, students develop timing, balance, decision-making, and the ability to adjust when the first solution does not work.

03

Build Skills That Transfer

Guided live training helps students develop instincts and understanding that carry directly into rolling, competition, and other realistic grappling situations.
